Description

This 18th century Spanish colonial painting represents Santa Barbara,  patroness saint of fire, gunners, masons, miners and storms. Having rejected the arranged marriage organized by her father, a rich pagan named Dioscorus, he beheaded her in 235 A.D., and he in turn, was struck struck down and killed by a bolt of fire from heaven.
